1. A not for profit Community Service Agency established for over 17 years ago with 22 professional Counsellors and Psychologists across our 3 centres.
- We provide high quality, professional counselling at low cost for : Individuals, Couples and Families, experiencing crisis or difficult life circumstances
- Areas of counselling:
v General: Depression; anxiety, domestic violence; abuse; anger management, gambling, drug and alcohol issues, grief and loss.
v Eating disorders, chronic illness, child and adolescent issues, family,
v Specialist areas: physical and intellectual disability; couple mediation; Chinese speaking counsellor;
v Peer and individual supervision
v Employee assistance programs, career counselling
v Group work: support groups, anger management, CFS, depression, building healthy relationships, grief and loss
- Centres situated at Glen Waverley; Blackburn Nth, and Melton. Each Centre is associated with a local Baptist Church as part of their community support services. Each Church includes other welfare services such as Foodbanks, supported accommodation and home visiting.
Karinya Counselling Inc. is founded on the belief that every human being is made in the image of God and is unique and precious, with spiritual, physical, emotional, and social aspects of their being that require a holistic response in counselling.
Karinya is committed to promoting healing and reconciliation through counselling, spiritual nurture, life skills education and support to clients regardless of race, colour, gender, religion or social status.
As a non-profit community service agency administered by a Committee of Management, Karinya embraces the Christian ethic and addresses spiritual perspectives with clients for whom this is an issue. It offers high quality low cost professional counselling for individuals, couples, or families experiencing crisis, struggling to find personal meaning in life, seeking new directions, or experiencing conflict or critical decisions.
AIMS OF KARINYA
v To be an expression of the Church in the local community
v To model God’s love and care in the context of a relationship that exemplifies Christ-like dealings with other human beings.
v To provide professionally competent short or long term counselling, preventive or educational programs and support at affordable rates.
v To promote a non-judgemental environment of safety and acceptance, where clients are encouraged to explore issues and areas of vulnerability.
v To respect the autonomy and dignity of the client, and the right to confidentiality of information with the exception of legal and safety constraints.
v To offer holistic care by working in cooperation with other Churches, agencies and government services, to promote the well being of clients and the community.
v To enhance the development of the agency by the provision of adequate professional, administrative, financial and pastoral resources.
